Morning Walks

walking for health

This is where our walk starts each morning. A small parking lot at the beginning of the trail

Morning Walks are a daily habit for my wife and I. She has had a walking routine for years but I only got serious about walking for health after I retired. Before then I would walk now and then but not on a regular basis. Now it is 4 mornings a week, every week. It is the main exercise in my program to keep in shape.

Another is hand weights that I keep at my computer desk. When I am reading an article, I will use the time to exercise the arms with the hand weights. I have other, heaver weights for other exercises I do at different times during the week. The idea is to do some form of exercise daily and to keep at it until it becomes a habit. There are many people that start a walking program and then lose interest because they keep walking around the same block over and over again. One of the secrets to making it a habit is to find places where you really enjoy walking and go their often. Another is to find someone who’s company you enjoy and to walk together. My wife and I walk with one or more or our nieces each day. Today the niece brought her daughter.

My walking companions are getting ahead of me

The first mile of our walk is on a paved walkway, the left and right side of the pavement is made of bricks. Trees are planted in the center.

There are tables and chairs to rest or even enjoy a snack if you wish

On the right side is the river, at the moment it is not as full as it will be in a couple more weeks but it is still beautiful as a side to the path.

The river is hiding just off to the right. As soon as the rains return, you can see it as you walk

One mile into the walk, it becomes a natural trail. Enjoyed by many and there is a police four wheeler that patrols the area.

There is much to look at on the natural trail

The Natural trail is about 2 miles long. There are usually a lot of walkers, some bike riders and a few joggers. Morning walks are best to avoid the heat that comes with the afternoon.

The trail does not loop back to the starting point. We reach a point where we will need to stop, and then head back to the starting point.

The turn around point is the beaches of Puerto Vallarta

We actually take off our walking shoes and walk another mile in the sand barefoot. It is an extra treat before starting back.

The walk back is just as enjoyable as the first half of the trip.

When your walking, the view is an important part of the exercise, because it can help relax your mind and help set the mood for the day.

And if that is not enough, they have even added exercise equipment along the trail so that you can get a full body workout if you wish.

And when we get back to the starting point, we will reward ourselves.

We always enjoy fresh coconut water after the walk. The is a truck there daily, They open the coconut for you and after you have enjoyed the coconut water, they remove the coconut meat and give it to you to take home.

As you can see, finding the right place to walk is almost as important as the walk its self. We invite you to join us on one of our Morning Walks the next time you are visiting Puerto Vallarta.
